Arson attack on Melbourne soccer pitch

A suspicious fire has caused $50,000 worth of damage to a synthetic soccer pitch in Melbourne's southeast.

Fire crews were called to a reserve in Parkside Avenue in Oakleigh about 4.20am on Sunday, and the fire was deemed to be suspicious.

Police have been told the new pitch was almost ready to use before the arson attack.
