Sleepy Victorian gunman charged

A man allegedly armed with a handgun who fell asleep in a Melbourne car park has been charged.

Heavily armed Special Operations Group officers shut down streets in Mooroolbark on Thursday after a passer-by saw an armed man slumped at the wheel of his car at 7.40am.

Police moved in to arrest him just before 10am.

The 30-year-old Croydon man was charged with possessing an unregistered handgun and possessing a controlled weapon.

He was bailed to appear at the Ringwood Magistrates Court on September 21.
