When something's not right, report it

It shone a light on police brutality and dodgy education department dealings and now Victoria's anti-corruption watchdog wants the community to help expose other corrupt public servants.

The Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission has launched the "When something's not right. Report it" campaign urging people to report corruption in the Victorian public sector, including state and local governments.

The campaign follows recent investigations into alleged corrupt conduct in state government departments and agencies, local councils and Victoria Police.

One investigation claimed the scalp of a former education department big wig who funnelled department money into his own personal slush fund, which he used to pay for overseas travel and a toupee.

Others highlighted police brutality at the Ballarat Police Station and evidence of drug use and trafficking among a group of officers.

"Public sector corruption is not a victimless crime. It deprives the state of tax dollars that would have otherwise been used to run our schools, hospitals, transport and other vital public services," IBAC chief executive officer Alistair Maclean said in a statement.
