Vic man to admit fatal Cherry Bar assault

A man who allegedly threw a fatal punch outside a Melbourne bar has indicated he plans to plead guilty over the death.

Richard Vincec, 26, briefly appeared before the Victorian Supreme Court on Friday charged with the manslaughter of 22-year-old Jaiden Walker.

Vincec plans to plead guilty, the court was told.

He is due to enter the plea next week and will remain on bail until he returns to court on August 31.

Vincec was allegedly on drugs when he punched Mr Walker outside Cherry Bar in Melbourne's iconic ACDC lane on May 6.

Mr Walker's head hit the ground with a "deafening cracking sound" and he died a week later.

Vincec allegedly punched Mr Walker after becoming agitated with the 22-year-old for refusing to shake his hand.

Police say Vincec later admitted the assault to investigators.

"It wasn't intentional. I don't know. He took a swipe at me first. I couldn't say self-defence because he didn't hit me," Vincec allegeldy told police.

Prosecutors say Vincec kissed a woman, who was a friend of Mr Walker, at Cherry Bar after Vincec and the woman had taken speed together in a toilet cubicle.

After they were evicted from the bar, Vincec made sexual advances towards the woman but she declined.

Vincec then tried to shake people's hands and allegedly became angry with Mr Walker when he refused.

The 26-year-old allegedly fled after Mr Walker fell to the ground, police have previously said.

Vincec, who has a de facto partner and three children, was originally charged with manslaughter, intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury, and possession of drugs.

He was taken into custody when arrested in May before being released on bail with strict conditions and a $20,000 surety.

Vincec is scheduled to face a full-day pre-sentence hearing on October 2 after he enters his guilty plea.
