Alleged Vic arsonist charged over 23 fires

A man who allegedly lit 23 bushfires in country Victoria over five years has been charged.

A 10-hectare fire near Ararat and the arrest of a man on Friday brought an end to a two-year arson investigation in the Ararat area, police say.

The 47-year-old local has been remanded to appear before the Ballarat Magistrates Court on Monday charged with offences relating to 23 fires.

No one was injured in any of the fires.
