Alleged Vic killer used hotel, court told

A schizophrenic Melbourne man who allegedly killed his mother with a rolling pin and a knife later checked into a motel to have a shower, a court has been told.

"Delusional" Socrates Tamvakis, 45, is on trial for the April 2016 murder of his mother Violet at her Bentleigh home.

The Supreme Court of Victoria was on Thursday shown footage of Tamvakis checking into the Chadstone Executive Motel about 3pm on April 26.

According to the motel's front desk manager, Tamvakis checked out early, saying he had just wanted a shower.

The court was also shown footage of Tamvakis roaming the halls and kitchen of his Dandenong share house about 3am on the day of his mother's death.

Leading Senior Constable Tracey Starr said she attended Mrs Tamvakis' Bentleigh home on the day of the 75-year-old's death.

Police found a blood-stained rolling pin, a knife and a blood-stained food preparation glove that had been turned inside out, she said.

Officers searched Tamvakis' bedroom and living area in a garage attached to his mother's house, Const Starr added.

It was "very untidy" and "trashed", with upturned furniture, food scraps littered around, clothing strewn, an unmade bed and writing on the walls, she said.

Diluted blood had been found on the bathroom vanity along with blood-stained towels, the police witness said.

A set of keys was found in the back door but fingerprints weren't taken from them and neither were they seized by authorities, the court was told.

Tamvakis' mental heath had declined in the six month before the alleged murder, the court has been told previously.

It is claimed Tamvakis had "persecutory delusions" he was sexually molested by his mother as a child, that she was trying to poison him, and that she used black magic.

The trial continues.
