Algae outbreak remains despite Vic rains

Heavy rain across Victoria has had little impact on a blue-green algae outbreak in the Murray River and other northern waterways.

Emergency Management commissioner Craig Lapsley on Friday said the rain and cooler weather hadn't made significant inroads into the algal bloom, which stretches from Lake Hume to Murrabit and is also impacting parts of the Loddon River and Kerang Lakes.

The bloom is expected to remain into April and people are reminded to avoid direct contact with affected water.
