AFL finals link to off-field assaults

There's an increasing number of assaults during Melbourne's AFL final series, say police who are planning a crackdown for grand final weekend.

There will be a high police presence in the city from Friday until mid-Sunday, region Commander Tim Hansen said.

"We're starting to see a growing number of assaults occurring out in public places after the event," he told reporters on Thursday.
