Accused Vic gunman has vendetta: court

A man has been denied bail after prosecutors successfully argued he still has a vendetta against the man he's accused of attempting to kill.

Rami Margus, 23, is alleged to have shot the man outside a Glenroy milk bar in December.

Magistrate Sarah Dawes denied Margus' bail application on Friday after hearing prosecutor Bill Stougiannos argue on Wednesday that there were ongoing concerns for the victim's safety.

Police say Margus, from Essendon, was overheard on a covert recording arranging a meeting with the victim less than an hour before the shooting, and later "debriefing" about the incident.

Margus is charged with attempted murder, as well as trafficking a large commercial quantity of heroin and possessing suspected proceeds of crime.

He allegedly twice sold half a kilogram of heroin worth $110,000 to federal police officers in covert operations in October and November last year.

Margus' DNA was also found on an almost 350 gram package of heroin sold to Victoria Police officers in a separate covert operation in November, the court heard.

Police also objected to bail, saying Margus had a propensity for violence, organised crime links and involvement in drug trafficking.

Defence barrister Colin Lovitt, QC, has argued that the attempted murder charge was not strong, while in relation to the drugs police couldn't identify Margus as anything more than a courier.

The court heard it could take up to two years for the drug case to be heard because of a large number of co-offenders.

Margus will remain in custody and is expected to re-appear in court later this year.
