Accused murderer heading back to SA

Murder accused Travis Kirchner will be extradited to South Australia after facing a magistrate in Melbourne, where a five-day manhunt came to an end.

The 43-year-old faced Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday charged with the murder of Sally Rothe, 54, at a Murray Bridge home, southeast of Adelaide, on February 4.

He was arrested at a Doveton house in southeast Melbourne on Friday, alongside Murray Bridge residents Ronald Cook, 49, and 50-year-old Marnie Passehl.

Both Cook and Passehl are charged with assisting an offender, and they broke down crying during Monday's extradition hearing.

The trio were tracked down by Victorian homicide squad detectives and a fugitive task force after a five-day manhunt, including a search of 110 properties.

Kirchner, Cook and Passehl are due to be extradited to South Australia on Tuesday to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court the same day.
