Accused Vic hit-run driver faces court

A Melbourne driver accused of running a red light, hitting two teenagers on a pedestrian crossing and fatally injuring one, has faced court.

Steven Vasilevski, 34, faces 11 charges including dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing serious injury, failing to stop and failing render assistance.

He is accused of hitting the teenagers on a pedestrian crossing at Delahey late on January 27.

Anthony Nguyen, 17, later died in hospital and his friend Jasmine Vuong also 17, was seriously injured.

Vasilevski was not required to say anything during a brief appearance via video link in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday, before Magistrate Andrew Capell.

He did not apply for bail and was remanded to appear at a two-day committal hearing on March 3.

Up to seven witnesses are expected to be questioned during the hearing, including Ms Vuong and the accused's parents and sister.
