A Melbourne library one of world's best

An innovative community library in Melbourne's Docklands has been named one of the world's best public libraries.

Library at the Dock is nominated for the Public Library of the Year Award 2015, established by the Danish Agency for Culture.

"The nomination of the Library at the Dock is based on its diverse range of learning opportunities from user-driven activities to formal learning," a statement released on Friday said.

It's been named along with libraries in New Zealand, Sweden, Kenya and Spain, which are all up for the grand prize of $US5000 ($A6,548) to be awarded in South Africa in August.
