350 calls for help as Melbourne storm hits

More than 350 calls for help have been made to the SES after a severe thunderstorm lashed Melbourne's east.

Calls came from Knox, Maroondah and Whitehorse as the storm passed over Melbourne.

An SES spokeswoman said the most common complaints were trees falling down or roof tiles coming off in the wind.

"We've had 246 calls for trees down in those areas, and 118 for building damage," she told AAP on Wednesday afternoon.

"It seems like the damage has been really isolated, and we're only got three units that are really working hard."

Power has gone out in a number of outer eastern suburbs, after gusts reached almost 100km/h.
