35 evacuated in Melbourne unit fire

More than 30 people have been evacuated from a Melbourne unit after a fire broke out.

Fire crews were called to the four-storey building in Flemington just after 7.30am when a blaze ignited in a third floor unit.

Crews contained the fire to a bedroom while evacuating about 35 people from the smoke-logged premises.

Damage is estimated at about $100,000.

No one was injured and the cause is being investigated, the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) said.
