Vic woman jailed over Facebook bashing

A Facebook post sparked a dispute that ended with a Victorian man being beaten into a coma.

Christine Picone, 39, her partner Jason "Gonzo" Tregenza, 39, and an associate bashed a man with weapons - including a crowbar and vacuum cleaner pole - at Breakwater, near Geelong, in October 2011.

Victorian County Court Judge Meryl Sexton said the "almost sickening" attack was sparked by a feud that began over Picone's posts on social media site Facebook about the victim.

Picone was found guilty of intentionally causing injury and was on Friday sentenced to six-and-a-half years in jail.

On the day of the assault, Picone had arranged for Tregenza and another man, who cannot be named, to go to the victim's house and confront him.

Picone lured him out of the house and said, "Get him, Gonzo".

The trio then cornered the man and began punching, kicking and hitting him with items found in the garage.

The attack resulted in the man being put in an induced coma, with severe fractures to his face.

Picone, of St Albans Park, must serve four-and-a-half years before being eligible for parole.

Judge Sexton said Picone, who has previous convictions for assault, had shown no signs of remorse for the damage done to her victim.

She said there was evidence Picone was a victim of family violence but said that did not have anything to do with her victim or excuse her actions.

Tregenza, of Corio, was previously sentenced to seven years' jail, with a minimum term of five years.
