Victorian man impales arms in horror start to Christmas Day

Four young men have been seriously injured in separate accidents across Victoria this morning, in an awful start to Christmas Day for paramedics.

Air ambulance helicopters are transferring the men to hospital with two in a critical condition.

In the early hours of this morning a man aged in his 20s fell five metres from the roof of a building in Shepparton, impaling his arms on a wrought iron gate.

Another man in his 20s fell three metres from a ledge onto the ground in a park in Bendigo.

At 4am, another man in his 20s lost control of his car and crashed into a tree on Little Moe River Road at Darnum.

He suffered leg and arm injuries.

Less than an hour later a car crashed into a tree on the Henty Highway at Heywood.

The driver, aged in his late teens, suffered serious head injuries.

Meanwhile in New South Wales, a man has been taken to hospital after smashing a van into two power poles in Sydney’s inner west.

Two shops on King Street in Newtown were damaged when the man crashed about 5am and one northbound lane of the main road has been closed, with drivers advised to avoid the area.
