Vic Labor leader 'petulant', Greens say

The Victorian Greens have labelled Opposition Leader Daniel Andrews "petulant" for ruling out cutting a deal to form government after the November state election.

The Green's Victorian leader Greg Barber said the party was running to win seats from the Liberal Party but would work constructively with all parties in parliament to deliver for the majority of Victorians.

He was responding to Mr Andrews' declaration that "no deal will be done" to secure government.

Mr Andrews said Labor had refused to deal with the Greens at the Melbourne by-election in 2012 and that policy would continue.

"No deal will be offered, and no deal will be done, and I could not be clearer than that," Mr Andrews told reporters on Monday.

His comments came after the Tasmanian Labor-Green government was swept from power on Saturday.

Mr Barber said "power sharing to form government" had been good enough for previous premiers including Steve Bracks, Peter Beattie and Mike Rann.

"It's a bit petulant of Mr Andrews to be demanding control of government even before the voters have decided the make-up of the next parliament," he said.
