Vic independent MP praises state budget

Victoria's balance-of-power MP Geoff Shaw has given his thumbs up to the state budget, saying it will boost jobs.

"It's a good budget for Victoria," the Frankston MP, whose holds the balance of power in the lower house, told parliament on Wednesday.

"It's got a lot of employment opportunities.

"It's quite a visionary budget."

But the independent MP was puzzled why his local Frankston high school received $8.5 million in the May budget when they only needed $2 million.

"I don't know why. They're surprised," he said.

Mr Shaw also used his speech to take a swipe at the local mayor and council, which he said should stick to picking up rubbish and mowing lawns.
