Victoria cat killer investigation turns violent

A man allegedly assaulted a police officer investigating the drowning of a pet cat during a Victorian break-in.

Police approached the 36-year-old following a bizarre burglary at a Cobram home in which the family pet, Puss Puss, was killed but nothing was stolen.

When they attempted to speak to the man on Thursday, he became aggressive and refused to co-operate, police said.

He allegedly struck one of the detectives in the face, causing cuts and bruises.

The man was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

The investigation into the death of the cat continues.
