Vic ambos, govt try to solve pay dispute

Victorian paramedics and the state government have agreed to review their positions to solve a long-running pay dispute.

Paramedics have rejected a government pay offer, instead backing work bans as part of the 20-month wages dispute.

The government on Monday said the paramedics' union and Ambulance Victoria, backed by the government, have agreed to review their positions.

Health Minister David Davis welcomed the ongoing talks, saying all parties have agreed to be flexible in considering how to solve the impasse.

A further conference at the Fair Work Commission is being planned in a bid to reach a deal.

The government has offered a six per cent upfront pay rise and two further tranches of three per cent, with a $1500 sign-on bonus.

Ambulance Employees Association secretary Steve McGhie says the union has always been committed to finding a solution.

"We welcome going back to the Fair Work Commission," he said.

"We're just hopeful a solution can be found."

The parties will resume talks at the FWC on 4.30pm (AEDT) Thursday and 4.15pm next Monday.
