Veterans say draft laws before parliament adequately protect the appeal rights of injured ex-service personnel and has widespread support.

A coalition of veteran groups argue government legislation, now held up in the Senate, is designed to address widespread complaints that the previous dual path appeals system is too cumbersome, complex and slow.

Labor withdrew its support for the bill last week after compensation lawyers Slater and Gordon said it would strip vulnerable injured veterans of their rights and add up to two years to the appeal process.
