Veterans' home ownership scheme extension

Veterans will have a five-year window after leaving the defence force to get government support for home ownership, under draft legislation introduced to federal parliament.

The window to apply for the subsidy scheme is currently two years.

Veterans Affairs Minister Darren Chester said the changes would help veterans adapt to civilian life, so they're not rushed into purchasing a home in fear of missing out on the subsidy.
