An Albury man was arrested on Friday after police allegedly discovered a vast cache of 100,000 child pornography images on his personal laptop.

Allan Darrell Blake, 56, was charged with producing, disseminating or possessing child abuse material.

At a court appearance at Albury Local Court on Monday, Magistrate Tony Murray asked Blake's solicitor how many images were found.

"One hundred thousand your honour," Sascha McCorriston replied.

A representative for the Director of Public Prosecutions promptly added that the images fit "all categories" of child abuse.

Bald, bearded and dressed in prison greens, Blake made no comment during the hearing and looked straight ahead while his matter was being discussed.

No submission for bail was made and Blake will remain in custody ahead of a court appearance next Monday, in which he will appear via video link from Junee Correctional Centre.

It is unknown whether the case will be run by local police or taken over by the DPP.

Police are searching for any information that could help them in their case and are urging anybody with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
