A man has narrowly escaped being crushed by a van after he stopped to change a flat tyre on Melbourne’s Eastern Freeway during early morning peak hour.

Drivers were forced to swerve around the man’s Holden Commodore after he jacked it up in a lane of flowing traffic near the Bulleen Road exit.

He was under his car before forced to jump out of the way just before a van came up behind him, smashed into the Commodore, rolled and landed upright on its wheels.

The van driver also escaped uninjured, but was reportedly shaken up by the crash.

Lanes were closed for 45 minutes, causing chaos for commuters.
