US agency puts restrictions on flights over Iraq

US aviation authorities have told American carriers to fly higher over Iraq, in the aftermath of the MH17 disaster.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that US carriers would now be prohibited from flying under 30,000 feet through Iraqi airspace.
The government agency said that the decision to raise the minimum flight altitude over Iraq was made due to “the potentially hazardous situation created by the armed conflict in Iraq.”
The FAA decision comes a week after Australian airline Qantas announced that it would no longer fly over Iraq.
Qantas took action after partner carrier Emirates changed its own route over the war-torn country, citing concerns over public safety.
