Uranium sellers to get better protection

Mining companies in Australia wanting to sell uranium to India for civilian uses will be better protected under new draft laws.

The Civil Nuclear Transfers to India Bill introduced to parliament on Wednesday gives legal and commercial certainty to Australian suppliers of their obligations under safeguard agreements.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop says companies in Australia are already negotiating the first contracts for what promises to be a significant trade.
