Pervert who filmed train station toilets jailed

Benjamin Moorhouse probably didn’t expect to be going to jail today – but he’ll spend at least the next six months behind bars.

He pleaded guilty to installing cameras and filming people in the public toilets at Parramatta and North Sydney train stations, over a two-month period.

The 40-year-old was arrested by police in March, and in September he was given a 20-month custodial sentence for the crimes.

A report was ordered to establish if he would be suitable for other options other than jail, including home detention.

But, despite the report finding he was suitable for home detention, today magistrate Mark Richardson found that the best option was to sentence Moorhouse to jail.

He said it was important to send a message to the community that such behaviour was unacceptable.

"I don't have any doubt that the community expectation would be that he should go to jail for this offence and he will," Magistrate Richardson said.

Moorhouse will appeal the sentence, but his bail application has been refused.
