‘Love at first sight’: Horse and goose celebrate Valentine’s Day

An unlikely couple has waddled and trotted their way through this Valentine’s Day in Melbourne.

Lucy Goose and Henry Horse first met seven years ago at the RSPCA in the city’s east.

“It was pretty much love at first sight. Henry came down to the paddocks and Lucy flew at him, squawking the whole way,” Kirsten Gillan from the RSPCA told 9NEWS today.

“They've been inseparable ever since”.

While the pair’s love could be described as “priceless”, the same could not be said for their human counterparts celebrating Valentine's Day this year.

Australians forked out an estimated $23 million as part of today's celebrations.

Victorians alone spent an average of $55 on flowers, $44 on alcohol and $34 at restaurants in a bid to spark some romance.

Across the state, 18 couples also took love to the next level by tying the knot the Victorian Marriage Registry.

“For couples that have been through (the registry) today, there’s that added spark,” James Lawson from Births, Deaths and Marriages Victoria said.
