Unlikely bid for Greens attention

Media magnate Rupert Murdoch and the Minerals Council of Australia have yet to put in a bid so a group of loggers could win a dinner with Australian Greens leaders.

Greens leader Christine Milne has reminded the Australian Forest Products Association they don't have to pay to get a meeting with her party members.

But the advice comes too late, with the loggers already bidding on a charity auction dinner with Senator Milne, Deputy Leader Adam Bandt and Senator Scott Ludlam.

The Greens are vocal opponents of an attempt to reduce the world heritage area in Tasmanian forests which would allow logging of an additional 74,000 hectares.

The issue would almost definitely be on the agenda at any dinner with the trio.

The auction is still open and the Greens are hoping for a bidding war.

"I'm also looking forward to bids from the minerals council, the IPA (Institute of Public Affairs) and Rupert Murdoch," Senator Milne said.

The dinner is part of a charity auction at the Parliament House Mid-Winter Ball on Wednesday.
