University student savagely bashed by ‘laughing thugs'

A 20-year-old man is in hospital after being brutally bashed as he tried to cross the road at Parkinson, south of Brisbane, last night.

Josh Powell had just hopped off the bus from university and had been crossing Algester Road, when a car carrying three men beeped at him about 9.30pm.

An altercation broke out, with the trio allegedly bashing the young man. Mr Powell was left with head injuries, swelling on the brain and multiple facial fractures.

Emergency services took the student to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition. He is currently being treated by specialists in the Emergency Department.

The victim later told his sister Bethany Fisher that his attackers “laughed” as they hopped back into the car and drove off.

Ms Fisher posted pictures of the assault on Facebook, describing the actions of the thugs, who remain on the run, as “cowardly.”

“The pieces of s---t are still out there,” she captioned the post.

The car used by the offenders is believed to be a grey Mitsubishi Lancer, with number plates starting in the 700’s.
