Higher ed reforms head to Senate again

The Abbott government's controversial university reforms are expected to pass the lower house on Wednesday.

After days of MPs offering their views on the revised university deregulation package, debate was adjourned on Tuesday evening after getting through the 50 or so scheduled speakers.

It's expected to be brought back in the House of Representatives, where the government has the numbers, on Wednesday for a vote.

The package will then go the Senate where the government faces a tough task to win over six of eight crossbenchers needed to pass the reforms.

The watered-down bill includes changes to woo cross bench senators, and Education Minister Christopher Pyne is prepared to continue negotiations.
