UN expert to assess violence against women

A United Nations expert is headed Down Under to assess the situation of violence against women in Australia.
Dubravka Simonovic will visit from Monday for a fortnight, travelling to places including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Cherbourg and Alice Springs to talk to government representatives and survivors.
"Violence against women continues to be one of the most pervasive human rights violations globally, affecting every woman worldwide and Australia is no exception," the special rapporteur said.
