Ugly scenes mar Wanderers ACL win

The Western Sydney Wanderers historic Asian Champions League victory was overshadowed when the two sides clashed on the field following an ugly incident after the full time whistle.

Angry Al-Hilal attacker Nasser Al Shamrani was caught on camera spitting at Western Sydney defender Matthew Spiranovic, sparking violent scenes between both clubs.

That incident followed on from a spiteful end to the match where Al Shamrani headbutted Spiranovic in the dying moments of the game.

In the footage, Spiranovic confronts Al Shamrani after the striker spits in the direction of the Socceroos defender.

Australian striker Tomi Juric then tries to get in between the two players, but Al Shamrani reacts violently towards the young player, pushing him in the chest.

That incident then spark a rush of players into the melee as ill temper spills over from the two-legged play-off.

As Wanderers officials try to guide their players away from the push and shove, Al Shamrani again attempts to re-ignite the feud, racing in to attack a number of players from the A-League club.

However, home officials eventually extricate the volatile player and the triumphant Wanderers are eventually able to collect their trophies.

The violent scenes failed to sour the moment for the Wanderers which became the first A-League side to win the ACL after a scoreless draw against Saudi Arabian club.

The Parramatta based club lifted the trophy 1-0 on aggregate after Juric's goal earned them a home win in the first leg last weekend.
