A new feature on ride-sharing app Uber allows drivers across the nation to earn money on their daily commute.

Driver Destinations allows drivers to be matched twice daily with riders travelling in the same direction.

“It allows local people to pick up people who live around them on their regular commute to work in the morning or evening,” Uber Australia spokesperson Sam Bool told 9NEWS.

Single father Marco Ali commutes 45 minutes to the Brisbane CBD every day.

He said Driver Destination allows him to earn an extra “$30 to $60” per day.

“Even if it just pays for your petrol to and from work or parking. It's a great way to cover those extra expenses,” Mr Ali said.

Since the addition was launched mid last year, thousands of Australians have shared rides, according to Mr Bool.

Uber currently operates in Brisbane, Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast , Sydney, Newcastle and the central NSW coast , Melbourne and Geelong , Adelaide , Perth, Hobart and Canberra.
