Ride-share services denied access to Optus Stadium

If you get in a car outside Optus Stadium - it won't be an Uber.

Both ride-share services and private cars will be refused access to Victoria Park Drive on event days. Taxis however are allowed.

By law, only taxis can use cab ranks - but some believe denying ride-share services a pickup or drop-off area is a mistake. 

Stadium management insists public transport options are equipped to move 83 percent of a capacity crowd before and after an event.

Some parking will be available at Belmont Park Racecourse - roughly one kilometre from the stadium. Via the yet-to-be completed footbridge, the closest car park in East Perth is 1.3km away. 

Uber didn't specifically comment on the ban but told 9NEWS, it's ready to work with the stadium to provide customers with all available transport options.

"Adding more private vehicles and ride share drop offs into the mix would interfere with bus services, create safety concerns for pedestrians and cause traffic congestion issues," transport minister Rita Saffioti said.
