Tyre spikes, dog used in police pursuit

A police pursuit west of Brisbane came to a dramatic end when officers used tyre deflation devices and a dog to catch an allegedly dangerous driver.

Police say the pursuit began when officers saw a Mercedes van being driven dangerously on Old Ipswich Road, Riverview, about 9.30pm Saturday.

When tyre deflation devices brought the van to a halt, the driver allegedly jumped out and started running.

A police dog unit located him shortly afterwards.

Police will also allege the man kicked out at the police dog that bit his shoe.

A 24-year-old Bundamba man has been charged with assaulting police, burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving under the influence of liquor and failure to stop a motor vehicle.

He's expected to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday.
