A 29-year-old man has dodged death "by millimetres" after he was shot several times in his abdomen and legs in a raid on a home south of Brisbane.

Another man, 35, in the house was also shot once in the leg during the raid which police believe could be drug-related.

They said an unknown man entered the home on Abell Road, in Jimboomba, about 3am (AEST) on Thursday.

The gunman then shot at a ute outside the house before leaving in a vehicle.

Both men have been taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where their condition is stable.

"It's extremely serious," Detective Superintendent David Hutchinson told reporters.

"The mere fact that he doesn't appear too seriously injured under the circumstances is mere luck.

"The difference between that and him being dead and this being a murder investigation is probably millimetres."

Det Supt Hutchinson said the property and victims were both known to police for drug offences and while no motive had yet been established, it didn't appear as though the attack was random.

"It's quite obviously a targeted attack on the occupants of the house," he said.

Neither victim claim to know the attacker or why they've been targeted, Det Supt Hutchinson added.

Police are waiting for a medical OK to conduct full interviews with the men.

Three other people who arrived at the property after the shooting are assisting police, however police are appealing for anyone who heard anything or saw a vehicle leaving Abell Road to contact police.
