Two men escape serious injury after plane crash-lands in regional NSW

Two men have escaped serious injury after their light plane crash-landed in a flooded paddock in south-western NSW.

The 65-year-old pilot and 42-year-old passenger are being treated in hospital for minor injuries after the crash in Wentworth just before noon today.

The light plane lost power shortly after take-off, forcing the pilot to try to land it in a flooded paddock near the Silver City Highway and the Wentworth aerodrome, according to Fire and Rescue NSW.

The plane then crashed into trees and crash-landed in the paddock, just north of the runway where it took off.

The men managed to free themselves from the plane and wade through the floodwater to get to the runway to meet emergency services.

They have both been taken by road to Mildura Base Hospital for treatment, with one suffering a laceration to the head and both suffering from shock.

The crash site has been sealed off ahead of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) investigating the crash.

The plane involved was a 'Jabiru' ultralight.
