Two men charged for punching female cop

Two young men who allegedly punched a female police officer in Sydney's west have been charged and will face court next month.

The incident occurred after a female sergeant noticed two men, aged 19 and 22, acting suspiciously in a car park in Guildford on Wednesday night, police say.

After searching the pair and finding what was thought to be cannabis in the 19-year-old's pocket, the two men hit her and fled, police say.

On Thursday night, the 22-year-old was arrested at Granville police station.

Later in the evening, the 19-year-old was arrested at a home in Guildford.

The pair were charged with assault police in execution of duty, resist arrest, escape police custody, intimidate police, and possess prohibited drug.

They were granted bail and will appear at Parramatta Local Court in July.
