Two family homes gutted by separate blazes in Brisbane

Powerful fires have destroyed two family homes in Kedron and Rochedale in Brisbane.

The Kedron blaze occurred late this afternoon on Gorman Street, with witnesses reporting blasted through windows and doorways on the top level of the two-storey residence.  

Emergency crews responded to the residence at 3.30pm. The blaze was so intense it threatened to melt nearby powerlines.

Tradesmen were seen working on the residence earlier in the afternoon.

Neighbours told detectives there was no warning before the fire occurred.

“The family are absolutely distraught,” firefighter Jason Anderson told 9NEWS.

The homeowners had reportedly already spent $800,000 on renovating the home. It is not believed to be insured.

Firefighters were also called to a fire in the south-east suburb of  Rochedale this afternoon.

Crews managed to get water on to the property quickly, and conducted a search for any residents.

No one was injured in either fire.

Firefighters said the incidents carried an important message.

“It’s a timely reminder that all house owners need to have working smoke alarms”.

Investigations into the cause of both incidents are expected to begin tonight.
