Two face court over fatal Vic hit-run

A man and a woman have been charged with fleeing the scene of a Melbourne crash that killed an elderly pedestrian, and then conspiring to lie to police.

Thomas Kelly, 80, was found dead on Birmingham Road at Mount Evelyn on September 15 after apparently being hit by a car.

Police allege 60-year-old Croydon man Peter Chilcott was involved in the accident but fled the scene without rendering assistance.

He is also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice by instructing Lorraine Morris - who police allege was in the car during the crash - to lie to police.

Morris, 76, also of Croydon, has been charged with failing to stop and render assistance, two counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice and two counts of signing a false statement.

The two briefly faced Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday, where they were bailed to reappear on May 8.
