Two dead at Cradle Mountain

A Chinese man with suspected hypothermia was among two tourists who have died in Tasmania's Cradle Mountain National Park.

The two unrelated deaths occurred on Thursday, Tasmania Police said.

A 21-year-old Chinese man died on the popular Overland Track.

"Initial investigations suggest that he may have suffered from hypothermia," a Tasmania Police statement said.

"He was part of a group of walkers. Early indications are that this group were not sufficiently equipped to undertake the multi-day hike."

The death came after a 68-year-old NSW man suffered a suspected heart attack near Marion's Lookout.

Both bodies have been recovered using a rescue helicopter and ground crews.

Police are warning hikers to be adequately prepared.

"Anyone considering walking in the Tasmania wilderness is encouraged to conduct research and prepare adequately as weather conditions in these areas can change very quickly," Inspector Kim Steven said.
