Teens rush to help injured taxi driver after alleged assault

Security vision has captured an alleged attack on a taxi driver and two men who came to his aid in Sydney's south last night.

The footage shows a passenger attempt to rip off one of the taxi's doors before driver Nadeen Usman flees the car, running onto the street.

He doesn't get far before being allegedly knocked to the ground and assaulted by a man and his girlfriend.

Teenagers Ryan Barrett and Bailey Cooper who were inside a nearby 7/11 convenience store at the time rushed outside to help Mr Usman, and were also allegedly attacked.

It’s alleged Mr Barrett, 18, was punched in the head and kicked in the face, as Mr Cooper, 19, was chased around the Woolooware store.

The alleged offenders ran away and jumped in another cab.

A man and a woman were arrested at Sylvania McDonalds less than 10 minutes later.

Jay Belgrove, 21, has been charged with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasions actual bodily harm, assault and destroying property and was refused bail.

Georgie-Lee Pickett, 20, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and three counts of assault. She was granted strict bail and will face court next month.

The driver was taken to hospital with head injuries and remains in a stable condition.
