Turnbull calls for advice on innovation

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has appealed to Britain's university chiefs and top researchers for advice in how to boost Australian innovation.

Mr Turnbull met with representatives of the university sector in the UK at King's College in London on Tuesday.

Among those at the meeting were Nobel Prize winning geneticist Sir Paul Nurse and officials from Universities UK and Oxford University, which Mr Turnbull attended.

"One thing we don't do very well in Australia is we don't have enough collaboration between primary research and universities and industry," he said.

"We are not commercialising enough of our (intellectual property)."

He asked those at the meeting for ideas on how to improve this.
