Turkey tipped to allow base use by RAAF
Ankara has reportedly cleared the way for RAAF planes to attack the Islamic State group in Syria under a deal that already gives the US air force access to Turkish air bases.
The US deal also covers other members of the international coalition, The Weekend Australian newspaper reported on Saturday.
It means Australian F-18 Hornets and Super Hornets should be able to fly out of Turkey's Incirlik air base.
Canberra is yet to announce its response to Washington's request for the RAAF to widen its mission from attacking IS targets in Iraq from its base in the United Arab Emirates.
Australia would still be required to obtain formal Turkish government consent to use a base or bases on its soil but a senior diplomatic source in Ankara indicated this would be forthcoming, The Weekend Australian said.
