Driver blowing his own horn fined for playing trumpet behind the wheel

A trumpet player has sounded a bum note after being caught playing his instrument while driving across a major Melbourne bridge.

Other motorists reported a car being driven erratically on the Westgate Freeway around lunchtime on Friday.

"Officers located the vehicle and pulled alongside to observe the driver," according to a Victoria Police statement.

"To their shock, the Portarlington man was playing a trumpet as he drove over the Westgate Bridge."

The driver, aged 27, was fined $354 for careless driving.

Police thanked the motorists who reported the man, saying they likely prevented an accident.
