Workers are rushing to clean up a market stall's worth of fruit that spilled over a Sydney road this morning, shutting down one lane.

A truck's load came loose at about 6am on Fullers Road in Chatswood in the city's north.

A colourful load of fruit and other produce, including oranges, mandarins, potatoes, and garlic mushrooms, were left strewn along about 100 metres of asphalt.

A Sydney road lane is closed after a truck spilled a load of fresh produce in Chatswood. Today

One lane of the Pacific Highway-bound road has been shut, though the other remains open.

It appeared that the mesh on the left-hand side of the truck had come loose, prompting a frantic dash for freedom by the fruit and veg inside.

Transport for NSW workers have been on site for over an hour, trying to clear the roadway ahead of the peak hour commute.
