Truck driver faces court over horror crash on Sydney's northern beaches

A Sydney truck driver has faced court over a horrific crash on Sydney’s northern beaches last year, which left a police officer fighting for her life.

Sarmad Nisan, 40, has been charged with nine offences, including dangerous driving, over the crash at Dee Why on October 21.

Police allege the Smithfield man lost control of his truck as he came down a steep hill, crossed three northbound lanes and mounted a concrete media strip.

The truck then collided with eight vehicles stopped at traffic lights and crushed one vehicle.

Six people were injured, including two off-duty police officers who were trapped in their car.

One of the officers was injured so badly doctors later put her into an induced coma.

Mr Nisan made a brief appearance at Manly Local Court today where his case was adjourned until March.

Outside court he refused to speak to police.

His licence has been suspended.
