A woman has died and a truck driver has been arrested following a fatal crash on the Princes Highway in South Australia last night.

At about 6.20pm, police and emergency services were called to the Swanport Bridge at Murray Bridge east of Adelaide, after a B-Double truck collided with a car.

The driver of the car, a 61-year-old woman from the state's southeast, died at the scene.

She was the only person in the car at the time.

A 54-year-old Victorian man has been arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrate's Court later today.

There are delays on the bridge and the Princes Highway following the crash, but the road has been reopened to traffic.

The woman's death raises South Australia's road toll to 43 compared to 39 this time last year.
