Trio caught on CCTV running from van explosion

Police are investigating an explosion that destroyed a van in Melbourne’s south-east last night.

It’s believed the explosion may have occurred prematurely, capturing those responsible off guard.

CCTV footage shows the moment the white Mercedes van exploded in the street in Dandenong South, just after 10.20pm.

The vision shows three people approach the van in the moments leading up to the explosion and then running away from it shortly after the blast.

One man in a nearby business heard the commotion and told 9NEWS it “shook the floor”.

The owner of the van is a local business owner and says he has no idea why the van was targeted.

Police are treating the explosion as suspicious and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, including anyone who knows of people being treated for burns last night.
